How to transfer your website to us.
You can change web hosting to us with no or minimal downtime or disruptions to your website.
Ensuring no or minimal downtime in your website transfer to us is a simple process. If you should experience any downtime, it is due to the DNS
record being changed and propagated through the world's WHOIS
servers. Simply put, it is the time taken to announced to all the servers around the world that you have changed your Singapore web host. Should this happen, web hosting companies have no control over it.
| It is highly recommended that you initiate a transfer of your website to us at least One Month before for web hosting period expires with your current web hosting provider. |
The only thing you need to ensure is that you do not delete your current (old) host service until your new one is setup with us and the transfer process is complete. Now just follow the 7 steps process below to ensure minimal or no downtime and disruption to your website.
7 Steps to Transfer Your Web Hosting to Us
1. Order A Web Hosting Plan With Us
This is the very first thing you will need to do. To be able to transfer your website to us. You need to take up one of our web hosting plans that best meet your business or personal requirements. You should receive an Order Confirmation from us. When your account has been setup, an Account Configuration email will be sent to you with your new account information.
2. Set Up Your New Host
In your Account Configuration email, you will receive important information on your new account. There are two things you would need to do:
- Follow the FTP Instructions to transfer your website - upload all of your files to your new gil.hosting server.
If
you do not have a copy of your webpages in your harddisk, you will need to download them from your existing host provider onto your harddrive before you can upload them into our server.
- Follow the Create Email Instructions to recreate your existing email accounts you have been using with your current host provider. Note that the email IDs must be the same. This is the most crucial if you do not want to lose contact with your customers.
3. Verify Your Website
When you have uploaded your files to your new gil.hosting server, verify that website is in proper working order without any missing webpages, missing images or broken links. For verification, you will be able to access your website via the IP address given to you until your domain name servers (DNS) have been modified and propagated.
4. Change Your Name Servers
Once you have verified that your website is in good working order, go to your domain registrar and change your DNS, both the primary and secondary DNS to point to our server. The information can be obtained from the DNS Instructions in your Account Configuration email. This is where the actual switch over process initiates the moment the DNS is changed.
5. Waiting Time
When all the above is done, you now need to sit and wait. Your site will be updated WORLDWIDE within 24-72 hours. This process is call propagation. NOTE: Do not delete your old host until 72 hours later even if you are able to see your site in your new server within 12 hours.
6. Support
If you have any problems during the transfer, contact our support team and we will be most happy to assist you.
7. Cancel Your Previous Hosting
When your DNS has been propagated, cancel the hosting plan with your previous host provider. Some host providers would require a 1 month's notice of cancellation.
Congratulations! Your transfer of web hosting to us will be free from disruptions.
